Now the grouse shooting season is quietening down, keepers turn their attention to other activities on the moorland. Trapping is a huge part of keeping the balance on moorland in order to enable a healthy population of all animals and avoid a huge over population of predators. This not only benefits game birds but also those birds, many of which are red and amber listed, that come and reside with us for their breeding seasons.

Keepers place the legal traps, perdix spring traps in this video, in boxes to ensure non target species do not get in. These traps have met humane standards set by the UK government. Keepers then place the boxes on trap lines where predators such as stoats, rats and weasels run and hunt.
