There’s No Smoke Without Fire!
Peak District Moorland Groups
Yet another wild fire that has this time destroyed a large part of an Ancient Scheduled Monument at Stanton-In-The-Peak. This fire was again started by some reckless individual/s. The land is tinder dry and why anyone would think they can just light a fire or have a BBQ is beyond us.
Unfortunately so many groups are still advocating that there is no harm in "fly camping" and turn a blind eye to so called responsible users?
In England you need the landowners permission to camp and a lot of our moorland areas are under a Public Space Protection Order, making it an offence to have an open fire.
Even with our current problems there are groups and individuals calling for a further relaxation of access rules, an increase in vegetation and an end to rural practices that by their very nature provide the manpower to act on anti social behaviour.
These groups also believe that under their watch nature will recover and our landscape will be immune to the effects of wildfire?
