Spring in the Yorkshire Dales

Spring seems to have sneaked in behind a curtain of showers, hail and wind. Life on our moors is certainly springing into action with our red listed waders laying eggs and some hatching already.

A few golden plovers are hatching off whereas others have yet to pair. Curlews are laying and an intrepid pair of oystercatchers have laid on a wall top. The black grouse are lekking not just early morning but at anytime if the greyhens are around. Our moor ponds are teeming with tadpoles and the wetter parts of the moors are producing their first snipe chicks. It’s such a fabulous time of year.

It beggars belief that anyone thinks our managed moors are deserts. These images were all taken in the last two days on the wonderful moors of the Yorkshire Dales where nature thrives in abundance
